the following is one of our most recent interview with detainee Ayad Alshmmaray. Ayad Alshammaray has been in immigration detention for 5 years and 8 months despite the fact that he served his full sentence for prior convictions. His home country of Iraq will not receive him as he has been deemed a “security risk” by the CBSA. Ayad Alshammaray is also suffering from lung cancer and has not been receive the appropriate attention while in detention. He is worried that he will die from cancer while in detention. Currently, Alshammaray is trying to contact his embassy but is not being given permission by security guards in the correctional facility. This is his story.
